Frequently Asked Questions - Newborn Sessions
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE MY NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHED?
Newborns are typically photographed when they are between 7-21 days old. I am able photograph babies that fall outside that timeframe, however, it does become less likely we can capture all the sleepy, squishy poses as the older newborns are more alert and active.
HOW LONG DOES THE SESSION TAKE?
Newborn sessions are baby-led and will take some time. Depending on the session type and the temperament of the baby that day, session could last 1-3 hours. Occasionally, sessions run a little longer if the baby required extra soothing or feeding time throughout the session.
I strongly suggest you do not schedule any other appointments on the day of your session. Please do not schedule your session the same day as any immunizations, unless the appointment is after the session.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
I cover everything needed for the session– all you just supply is your sweet baby (and their favorite milk/formula)!
My fully-stocked newborn studio holds a vast collection of high-quality props, outfits, accessories and more that I use to style your session. You're welcome to request your favorite colors, props, etc. for your session, and if you have a sentimental item that you want to include, I will do my best to incorporate it in a creative way!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE BABY ARRIVES EARLY, OR LATER, THAN EXPECTED?
Babies do what they want– lol, so it's best to just keep me in the loop of any delivery date changes or scheduled inductions. As your due date approaches, I'll check in with you for an update on your baby’s status and we can modify the session date as needed.
If your baby arrives a little earlier then planned, please contact me as soon as possible to plan out a date for your session. Similarly, if your baby is running late, or has been born but requires special attention (like light therapy or a stay in the NICU), contact me when you are able and we will plan the session for when your baby is medically cleared. I'm always flexible in the consideration of your baby's health, so don't worry if the session date needs to change!
ARE FAMILY PORTRAITS INCLUDED IN THE NEWBORN SESSION?
Yes! Family (the immediate family, i.e. baby's parents and siblings) are included in the Heirloom session. Additional individuals or family may be included for an additional per person fee.
Families with other children are typically photographed at the beginning of the session since little ones get pretty antsy waiting around to have their photo taken. In my experience, it's best to plan for family/sibling photos first, then to have an adult leave with the siblings during the remainder of the time to not disturb the newborn session (One parent is required to be present during the entirety of the session).
For families without other siblings, portraits with the newborn are usually done towards the end of the session.
